My favorite part of the piece in the Times was this doozy:
"Julaine Smith, treasurer of Allies, gave $1,000 to the campaign. She did it, she said, to support a smart, practical woman with a heart for helping other people. The gay-marriage issue didn't cross her mind."
Of course. The treasurer of the group dedicated to preventing gay people from being granted the right to marry gives a donation to the (former?) executive of the group dedicated to preventing gay people from being granted the right to marry, and the gay marriage issue never crosses her mind.
Just like water never crosses a fish's mind. Water is the world the fish lives in, and it is never questioned.
I'm a Renton resident of three years, and I'm fiercely proud of my adopted city. My goal is (was!) to prevent Cheryl Haskins, a right-wing, anti-gay activist, from winning a seat on the Renton City Council in the 2007 election.
